WELCOME TO EAST PALO ALTO BOXING CLUB

Our goal here at East Palo Alto Boxing Club is to instill self-discipline, responsibility, independence, self-worth and respect for others through boxing. We provide a nurturing, disciplined, and constructive environment for young people and all others, alike, to learn the sweet science. We believe that through boxing, children, teens, and adults can find the inner-strength and dedication it takes to compete at a high level, not only in the ring, but in life. Our vision is to help anyone that walks through our doors achieve their goals; whatever they may be. Founded by former boxer, Johnnie Gray Jr with boxing experience at both the amateur and professional levels, EPA Boxing Club provides the tools needed to get you started in learning and excelling at the sweet science.

JOHNNIE GRAY JR’S BOXING CREDO

“Boxing is an individual sport with a team of one, only you can make it happen. No one else is there to carry the slack. Whatever your circumstances, it is ultimately only you who can stand in the way of your own success.” Coach Gray sees boxing as not only a sport, but a way to develop the determination to face all the obstacles you may encounter in life. Coach Johnnie Gray is not creating fighters, he is creating future leaders, thinkers and heroes. “Boxing has to do with giving it your all, mentally and physically, and learning to use your inner strength. For youth growing up in our community, facing all kinds of challenges, understanding this is more important than any one-two combination they could ever throw.”

EAST PALO ALTO COMMUNITY OUTREACH

EPA Boxing Club was started to give young people of East Palo Alto at-risk of joining gangs or becoming involved in criminal activity a place to work out and relieve stress. EPA Boxing Club is a place to channel negative energy into something positive for both the participants and the community. Our main goal is to provide youth with the discipline and structure they need to succeed in life. Coach Johnnie Gray has been a resident of East Palo Alto for over 30 years and knows how hard it is for young people. Boxing changed his life, and he believes that it will do the same for others. EPA Boxing Club has been a bright spot in the East Palo Alto community for over 6 years, and despite funding issues still remains a positive outlet for East Palo Alto youth. You can read more about us in Palo Alto Weekly  and the Paly Voice.
